At the Leong Hall Roofdeck on September 9, 2019, BOx held its 1st General Assembly: Abiogenesis. In this event, all BOx members, old and new, were introduced to a new year in the organization, wherein they were presented with the upcoming projects and activities that are in store for them. BОx President Justin Tan started off the GA by welcoming all the members and explaining what BOx is about. He presented its three advocacies: Biodiversity, Bioeducation, and Animal Welfare.
This year, one of the major changes made in the organization is the implementation of the departmentalized system, wherein members get to work together with one arm of the organization and utilize their skills to help that arm. In order for the members to determine how they could contribute to the organization, the departments of BOx, as well as the EBCB structure, were introduced.
The departments include: Membership Operations (MOD), which facilitates the bonding of members as part of the organization; Advocacy (AD), which focuses on spreading awareness of the BOX’s advocacies through their projects; Secretariat & Documentations (SDD), which is concerned with the promotion and documentation of each BOx event; Member Development (MDD), which deals with the personal development of each BOx member; Finance (FD), which handles budgeting and fundraising for the organization, and; Partnerships (PD), which coordinates with partners in and out of campus to maximize opportunities for the members.
In between introductions, BeatBOx gave an electrifying dance performance, and VoiceBOx exhibited their talents of singing, both individual and chorale, and playing instruments. The VPs of each department described the projects and activities that they plan on doing in order to give the audience a better grasp of how they could fit into the organization.
At the end of the event, BOx members had the opportunity to visit booths manned by the EBCB to sign up for projects like Marine Rehabilitation, Philippine Biology Olympiad, and BOx sports and performance teams. The 1st GA ended with much anticipation for another active and fulfilling year in BOx.
